If no private sponsor came to your rescue, then I feel you might not have approached the right people. If I am correct, one of my Son,s class mate from your Country, did his MSc- Biotechnology, by sponsorship. Try again. Have you enquired with your Governments concerned department ? try there also. The subject you have taken is excellent, you can start earning after finishing the course, summarize it. Approach a Banker for a study loan. Good luck.

Economic career! advice??..living in the UAE
Economic career! advice??..living in the UAE?
I have moved to the UAE from the UK and i am due to start uni next semester however i am having difficulty in deciding what to study. I would like to study Economics and then do further education (MSc, MBA..) probably in the UK but there are a few questions i need help with: 1) Will an economic degree provide me with job opportunities in the UAE or will a degree in Business Admin or Accountancy be more promising? 2) Would it be more useful to do a Masters in Economics or Finance or Political Science or an MBA in Business Admin?? I just need some advice. I know my question isnt very clear but im just curious as to which field will provide me with the best job opportunities and career prospects? Also what kind of jobs would some of the degrees provide me with? Anyone with any similar experience will be greatly appreciated! Thank you soo much in advance :)

my dear i m presently doing my PhD in Economics well the question you have asked is very relative . . my first answer is do what you are really good at or like the most. lets take my example. . i did my masters in economics with 300 batch mates but only a few have got jobs in economic field (including me :) ) the reason is that to get a job in this field you will have to be really good. the types of jobs an economist may get are . . . policy advisor to government. . economic advisor to multinationals. . freelance research analyst (huge payments if you make your name reputable) . . . . professor of economics in a university etc but if you are not that good in economics than you will get jobs that are better suited if you do an mba specializing in finance. so if you are good in or like economics very much then do it . . it gets paid highly other wise do an mba

Basically,an MBA would be a good option. In order to inform yourself about prospective Jobs, you can browse these job related websites : www.bayt.com www.jobsindubai.com http://www.monstergulf.com/
2
I strongly suggest that you DO NOT think of jobs at this stage. Choose a career instead. Let us examine the options 1. Bachelors in Business Administration + MBA. You would end up being a Line Manager during mid-career with lots of responsibilities and stress. Long working hours needing good leadership skills to motivate a team and meet targets. Wide Industry options 2. Bachelors and Masters in Economics More of a back-office opportunity. Business analysis, Internal audit options. Less stress requiring more analytical skills rather than supervisory and motivational. One needs to be meticulous and pay attention to detail. Career could be less glamourous. Try and see what suits your personality. All the best. If you are sincere you will always find employment
3
1) a BA or Accountancy would give you a broader range of options. 2) Depends on your interests. I would rank an MBA as being the most useful, followed by a Masters in Finance, then Economics. The latter start getting specialised and reduce your options -- if you end up not liking the field, you don't have much else you can do. I don't think a Masters in Pol Sci is of much use.

Looking for advice regarding entering the Investment Banking field
Looking for advice regarding entering the Investment Banking field?
I am interested in getting involved with IB at the analyst level now, or associate level in the future. I currently hold an Economics undergrad with a mediocre GPA (B+) and a one-year post-graduate Accounting diploma with an A+ GPA. Both are from well rated schools but are not Ivy league. Despite my relatively low Econ GPA, I am very analytical, have an A average in my junior and senior year and worked for a prof building economic and finance models in a variety of languages (C, MATLAB, etc.). I currently have an offer at a Big Four accounting firm that has to be accepted before Sept (ie IB recruiting season). My first question is am I currently competitive to work as an analyst at a large IB firm? If not, I was thinking of pursuing my MSc. in Quantitative Finance from the University of London External Programme while earning my accounting designation at the Big Four firm. Would this make me competitive for an associate position in 3-5 years? Would doing my CFA tests help? Thanks.

if you have an offer at a top accounting firm, your best bet is to work their for a few years and try your hardest to move up the ladder. Take some initiative and show that your a top dog in the financial field. After a few years of that try to earn a high score on the GMAT and get into a top 10 MBA program. The majority of IB jobs recruit from the top MBA programs, and by getting an MBA from one of those programs is the first real step into the IB field. Without an MBA the odds of moving up in the IB field is slim to none. Good luck

LSE is one of the best schools in the world, but a lot of Americans don't know about it because.......it's not in America. My parents went to Oxford, and I'm surprised at the number of people who've never heard of it, either! The average person on the street might have never heard of LSE, but the people working in your field certainly should. If a potential employer doesn't recognize it, then a simple Google search will fill him in. It's very respectable, and hopefully the degree will take you far. It might encourage you to know that my step dad went there & then to Wharton and has done very, very well in life. : )

Should I go for graduate school....again?
I already have a BSc and MA. I've been out of the labour force for nearly 8 months now...but, have recently received an offer to attend MSc in Statistics. I am 26 and interested in a Phd in Economics...but I can't join the Phd program directly because of low grades in my core courses. I also would like to know, should I accept the grad. school's offer and land a job offer...can I still take the job offer with no consequences from the grad school? what if I was on a full scholarship? would it still matter if I take the job offer at any point (i.e before/at start of program?)

It depends when. If you accept a job offer and change direction before the beginning of the program, you would lose only any deposits that you might have to make. If you start the program and THEN get the job offer, you would probably owe the tuition for that semester, even if you stop attending classes.

I have some opts 1) to go abroad to earn master degree with narrow specialization 2)stay at home university for international master program -economics in F&E sector(alma mater+Leipzig Universitat) What I want in future (and now, if possible)? 1)good salary 2)challenging work 3)professional prosperity 4)children. What to do? My alma mater- is the most elite Moscow Institute of International Relations. I know several languages(Eng, Germ, Russian, Kazakh), my GPA is 3,8(or 4.8 of 5 in Russian system) one more question - if I finish Msc in Marketing, as who I can work?

Which choice is the best in the Netherlands
Which choice is the best in the Netherlands?
I am 26 years old and have been working for a major shipping company for 4 years in supervisory position. I would like to enroll in the Netherlands for a postgraduate courses, which might make my career more promising. With some efforts, I've got 3 choices in the Netherlands. Of course, I can see their tuition fee, duration & some materials online clearly. But any of them might blow their own trumpet in advertising their prestigy and student's prospect. If you know anything else than the universities have told me online, please, please let me know. It helps me to decide which to go to. =========== 1. Erasmus (MASTER'S IN MARITIME ECONOMICS & LOGISTICS ) http://www.maritimeeconomics.com/ 2. Tilburg University (Logistics and Operations Management) http://www.tilburguniversity.nl/prospectivestudents/masters/feb/lom/ 3. HAN University (MSc in European Logistics, Transport and Distribution ) http://www.han.nl/restyle/international/int-abs/fac_frameset.xml

You gave lot of background information but did not indicate if you wanted to work in the same industry or change. If you want to continue in the shipping industry, Erasmus is your choice. Logistics and operations management is broader in scope and can apply to almost any industry that has logistical needs. The broadest scope is in Tilburg's program. HAN's program focuses on Europe and if that is where you want to be, it would be a good choice. To sum up, pick the one that matches your career ambition and talent. Good luck! cc

Considering the growth and Development plans of the UAE, you would benefit greatly in job opportunities there. As you probably are aware of, the UAE is attracting businesses and seasonal residents at a large and fast rate. As to your question, I would suggest pursuing your education in the lines of Business Admin, and financing/accountancy. As the UAE moves forward with its plan to make the UAE more attractive to large businesses, those businesses that relocate offices and corporate offices to the UAE will need to hire appropriate personnel for the UAE offices. You should have a high advantage by already living in the UAE plus your educational degrees. If for whatever reason business isn't your thing, you could be quit successful in real estate. The population growth in the UAE is expanding like a belt over the holidays seasons. Good Luck

Firstly, you might want to evaluate which career path you would like to follow. For both questions 1 and 2, an economics degree would be more useful if you plan on becoming a Chartered Accountant; while an undergrad business degree would be more useful if you plan to an MBA later on. Both offer excellent career opportunities in the Middle East, and particularly in a city like Dubai.

I would recommend you do logistic management. Very few people venture into that area which means that opportunity for employment would be high.
2
As you cannot spell Logistics, business and management might be a safer bet.
3
select first one because it will cover business and finance ( and check you intrest too) kia samjhay ;)
4
Business and finance.
5
Business and Finance gives you more options, making you more employable in a wider range of business activities. Logistic and supply chain is certainly more specific, and, if you are certain that there are such specific positions available, would give you an edge up in this field. You should do a bit more homework, and decide which option is best for you. All things being equal, I'd go for Business and Finance.

I presume you have all documentations what you have send to the University where you have accepted for Associate Degree Course in Accounts. As you said you don't mentioned nor have any documents in respect of your M.Sc in CS, because you are still doing it. Honesty is the best policy, tell them the truth, in case they ask you anything in this line.

I am thinking of taking the Australian working visa 24 month thingy
I am thinking of taking the Australian working visa 24 month thingy?
I can't really be bothered finishing my MSc degree in transportation just now - if I do, I could be eligible for a highly-skilled role in Oz, but then a company like Atkins could get me a visa, right? How much can I expect to earn in Oz as a Brit with an economics degree, no work experience, and a willingness to do any crappy job?

If your willing to work outside of your degree field, such as in a call centre or something you would be able to get about 40k pa AUD

By all means come on a Working Holiday visa; have a marvellous time and do your 88 days of fruitpicking or whatever in a regional area so you can apply for the second 12 months, but I'm afaid that staying any longer is going to be more difficult than you imagine unless you marry an Aussie. I've never heard of 'Atkins', but nobody can get an Australian visa skilled work visa if they don't have work experience and hiring some expensive agent or advisor won't help you to get around the requirements. You must still pass the points test and even with 3 years of work experience, an economist is going to be really pushing to do that - it's simply not an occupation in high demand so you miss out on MODL points. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/175/eligibility-applicant.htm Even if you can scrape in on the points test, because of the relatively low demand for the occupation, you will be looking at a visa processing time of 4 or 5 years from when you apply. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/pdf/migration-program.pdf You should also be aware that your transportation qualifications aren't in high demand either and in fact, no transport related occupation is listed at all that I can see. http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/ If you have an employer to sponsor you, there is no points test, but DIAC is most unlikely to accept a nomination for an inexperienced economist - we have plenty of home grown ones and there's no need to bring any in from overseas on 457 temporary visas. http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/skilled-workers/sbs/ A newly graduated economist can expect to earn maybe 50k for the first couple of years. By the time you have 3 year's experience and become eligible to apply to move here, you could probably expect 75k - $100k though a lack of Australian experience may count against you in finding work.

no a company can not get you a visa if your not experienced and able to pass the points test to move to australia and your occupation must be on the skilled occupation list the working holiday visa is 12 months with the option of a second visa if you do 3 months rural work while on your first visa

I want to Move to Netherlands
I want to Move to Netherlands?
I want to move to Netherlands for 2 years, Thus I need full time job there, does anyone know websites for or companies hiring NON Dutch speaking financiers. I speak English, little German, very little Swedish, perfect Russian and Georgian (native). I have MSc in financial and industrial economics and experience in finance, marketing and public sector. all the websites I stumbled on are offering jobs for Dutch speakers only or Dutch is required together with other languages (mainly English). totally forgot to mention, I am not EU/EEA citizen.

Well I can give you sites, but depending on your nationality then it is not as easy as just applying for a job. The reason I say this is that unless you hold an EEA passport, then to move over here with the wish to live and work, then you would have to find an employer who would apply for a work permit on you behalf. That work permit would not be granted unless it was proven that the job is of such a specialist nature that no-one else in the total pool of labour from (not just the Netherlands but the) whole EEA area. So whilst a MSc is a good start, it is not a guarantee because there are no end of Dutch and other EEA graduates in the same field currently taking any job they can because of not being able to find jobs in the current economy. On the education level alone you would not qualify for a highly skilled migrant and so it would depend on your work experience if you could qualify for a highly skilled migrant visa. You can read more about the details of the process here in a question I answered a while ago for another American interested in the same. It gives links to the IND (Dutch immigration site), how to look for jobs and accommodation as well. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au4FSM_iOwVeAeSn5NGVt4fty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20081029005645AAYhd63 (saving me retyping and also this turning out to be a very long answer!) As mentioned, you also have to take into account that the economy is having an effect on the EEA market and whilst the Netherlands is not (yet?) as badly affected as other EU countries such as Spain or the UK, of course the labour market in those countries are free to move to the Netherlands as well and jobs that don't require many qualifications/experience are easily filled by EEA passport holders. So you need to check what is the case with your nationality first and you can do this by using the wizard on the Dutch immigration site here http://www.ind.nl/EN/verblijfwijzer/ So yes you can apply but unless you have very specific skills/education which are highly in demand then no employer is going to wait 6 months (which is how long it can take to get a work permit granted) nor undergo the risk of being rejected at his cost when the market is plentiful of candidates eligable to work in these times. You can verify my comments on this site http://www.undutchables.nl/candidates/working-in-the-netherlands/work-permit/ Anyway, links? Well you can try with recruitment agencies but I fear that they will tell you the same as what I have. A job agency is an 'Uitzendburo' or 'Uitzendbureau' anda link to the yellow pages here http://yellowpages.goudengids.nl/displayhome.ds?locale=en_NL&visitorUid=8a90219019e8964d0119fceb83741af7&passwordToken=E644C26C-E692-C22B-C325-C9DC39460A68&newSearch=true&previousPath=displayhome Here are links to sites which have jobs in English: http://www.bluelynx.nl http://www.xpatjobs.com http://jobs.expatica.com/nl http://www.undutchables.nl What you can also do is check the Dutch version of Monsterboard and type "English" in the 'trefwoord' (keyword) field http://www.monsterboard.nl Good luck

What is the best way to enter a Teaching career? Looking for career advice
What is the best way to enter a Teaching career? Looking for career advice.?
I have an msc in computer science and a ba hons in business & economics. I have been thinking recently about teaching and was just wondering what the best path would be if i wanted to begin the career in teaching as soon as possible. Would the masters degree still require a PGCE? It is my understanding that there is a shortage of computer science teachers. Would that benefit me in any way? could i for instance get on the job experience? Help would be appreciated.

Check with your local school corporation as to what credentials you would need to teach. sign up as a substitute teacher immediately. Check with local tech schools and Jr colleges for a position in adjunct faculty. It should be no problem to teach at the college level
2
there are some diplomas for teaching then you can go in it,

I am a Professor in Banking from University of Bristol and I would like to give you some of my advice. I suggest you go to Cardiff because this is a big city where there are many respectable professors with high profile and very good facilities and support for research. Essex is good for pure economics but not for banking and finance. Loughborough is so so, a very new university with a short history. It is located in a rural area that I think you will feel bored if study there.

The median expected salary for a typical Economist (Corporate) in the United States is $106,886. However, I have heard of senior economists in IB or commercial lending earning upwards of $300k in NY or Boston.

Do I have any chances to get into LSE
Do I have any chances to get into LSE?
I am planning to take MSc in Finance or (and) Economics in LSE (or UCL or Imperial College of London, or any good schools that you would recommend). The only thing is that I had my previous BSc in Information Management and Technology in Syracuse University with 3.34/4 GPA. Could you please tell me what would be the best way to be able to get to these schools? One more off topic question, what is the best degree to be a trader in a stock exchange?

London School of Economics: is it worth the burden
London School of Economics: is it worth the burden?
Hello, does anyone here study at LSE? I'm thinking about applying for the MSc Political Sociology; even if they blow their own horn very well in the prospectus, the question "what am I going to do with a master's in such a theoretical subject, not economics or accounting" keeps popping out: £9,144 are a lot of money, and it would be great to have them paid back working where my title is looked well upon. Any hints from inside the school? Thanks!

I took classes at LSE this summer and thought it was an amazing school. The professors are top notch; they're incredibly knowledgeable, interesting and engaging. The students were really cool, too. I loved going there. It's an incredibly respected, prestigious school, and having a degree from there will look great on your CV, and I think it could lead to some interesting career options. Perhaps you could pursue working in the human rights field or for the government? Or you could go on to law school? Idk.......just ideas off the top of my head. I think it's a fairly new degree at LSE, but maybe if other schools have offered it for longer you could do some poking around their sites and see what careers graduates pursued. Good luck! : )

For the MBA, good grades such as 3.8 or higher, high GMAT score such as 680 or higher, and 3-4 years good work experience after the undergraduate degree. for an MS degree, pretty much the same but work experience tends to be less important. Explore the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools report their accreditation status, tuition cost, number of students, class sizes, program length, and a lot of other data. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria.

Prof's answer hits the nail on the head for the MBA, but I have some experience with applying to LSE, Cambridge, and Oxford for Master's in finance programs so I thought I would share. I graduated with three undergraduate degrees (BS Math, BA Econ, and BBA Finance) and a 3.89 GPA. Applied to Cambridge MPhil Finance, LSE MPhil Finance, and Oxford MSc in Financial Economics. Outright rejected from Oxford, made it to one of the final rounds at Cambridge but sadly was not accepted (my dream school... even had a letter of rec from a former Cambridge professor!!!), and accepted to LSE. LSE was too expensive and I got in to a few US PhD programs, so made the tough decision of not going to England. It is terribly competitive, and your background is similar to mine (if you are thinking of applying to these schools I am assuming your GPA is at least 3.7+), so you have a shot but it is never a sure thing. As far as i-banking and hedge fund possibilities upon graduation, LSE and Said at Oxford are probably your best bets, since the Judge School of Business isn't as well respected in the finance community (although it is still Cambridge, so you will be ok...). Good luck! PS It is much easier to get accepted to the master's programs in economics compared to finance, but it is more difficult to go from econ master's to i-banking/hedge funds, so keep that in mind.

7.Subsidised exercise. The disease diabetes 2 is an ever increasing problem in Denmark and throughout the Western world. It has turned out that mild versions of the disease may be treated by daily exercise, but it is difficult to get people to exercise. They will come up with all manner of excuses from lack of time to the unpleasant sweating and smelling that you exude after having exercised. As a consequence, subsidising exercise has been considered. So far this model has been tried in Sweden with a good result, but Denmark is considering introducing a similar system. The demand curve for exercise may be described as: P=200-5Q Where Q represents the monthly hours of exercise while P represents the discomfort from exercise by the hour. If you are greatly discomfited by exercise, you will exercise as little as possible, and if you are only discomfited to a relatively small degree, you will exercise a lot. The costs of exercise are an expression of what you might do instead of exercising, and it is clear that if you have to do a lot of exercise, you will miss many other activities, so the costs may be described as: MC=20+Q To this should be added the mentioned considerable advantages to society from the exercise, since you avoid all the additional complications associated with diabetes. Society’s advantages from having people exercise may be described as: P=100-0,5Q, as there are great advantages to be had from the first hours of exercise and fewer advantages to be gained from additional hours of exercise. It is assumed that the market for exercise is characterised by perfect competition, so you are to: •Compute the private optimum, i.e. private price, quantity and contribution margin. •Compute the social optimum, i.e. social price, quantity and contribution margin. In order to get people to exercise more, subsidising exercise has been considered. This would mean that on application to the local social services administration you may have your cost of exercising at a gym covered by more than 100%, which means that there is even some income to be gained from exercising. •You are to compute the subsidies at which the public sector is to refund expenditure on exercise in order to shift from the private to the social optimum. Compute and illustrate the social loss of deadweight to society if you are in the private rather than the social optimum. 8.Obesity tax. As everyone knows, obesity is one of the greatest social problems in Denmark. Over time almost everything has been tried to get people to eat healthy food and take exercise, but it has not worked and the number of obese citizens is increasing heavily. Finally, the authorities approach Niels Lauritzen, MSc. in economics, who after considering the matter for 10 minutes says: â€If economic incentives are effective within all types of areas, they will also work for obesityâ€, and he therefore suggests an obesity tax, which quite simply means that people must pay tax depending on their BMI. If their (Body Mass Index) is over 25, they must pay tax to the government, as obese people are a burden to the public health system in the same way that drivers are a burden to the road system. •Using demand and supply curves you are to illustrate how such an obesity tax may reduce the number of obese people and cause a shift from private towards social equilibrium.

Should I do a masters degree straight after I graduate with my bachelor
Should I do a masters degree straight after I graduate with my bachelor?
I'm going to start with my BSc degree in Economics at Swansea University, and having done more research into the reputation of universities, i'm kind of regretting choosing Swansea, since I declined offers from Cardiff, Manchester, Leicester and East Anglia in the process. Anyway, I don't feel it is the end of the world - it's still fairly decent and traditional, right? I'd like to do (not an MBA) but maybe something like an MSc in Economics/Finance/Management when I graduate at a much better university, e.g. Warwick, Bristol, Durham, Bath, LSE, UCL, Oxbridge etc, is this good/bad when entering the job market having graduated with such a masters degree? It means I will be 22 by time I have graduated with a masters. I'm also aiming for a job in the financial/commercial sector - it would be nice if I could enter the world of investment banking, or management/financial consulting or at least accounting. Something lucrative and prestigious in the financial world. Is my approach, by aiming to do a masters at a better university than Swansea, a good/bad idea? Thanks in advance.

If it serves your best interests- in the long run- to get a Master's now, then I would go for it now...
2
If you will be changing schools then I suggest letting some time pass before you apply. Graduate schools like to see that you were able to have some time to really think about you previous major and that you are sure you want to continue. After I graduate I plan to go to nepal and spend some time (a year) living with monks. I thought that would look pretty good on my application. :) But yea, taking some time off or working for a bit will look legitimate and help your chances of getting in. However, I'm sure it's not to big of a deal to go straight in.
3
I'd say if you have the determination to go straight in to it then go for it, but that's a few years off isn't it, so you'll not know how you feel until the time comes. Maybe by then you'll be needing a gap year or something. If you're still up for it when the time comes, I'd recommended Bristol. My friend is there, and it's a fantastic university. The lecturers are great, and there's a good pass rate there. Just work really hard to get good pass on your bachelor degree & it will help your chances to get in.

The lecturers are great, and there's a good pass rate there. Just work really hard to get good pass on your bachelor degree & it will help your chances to get in.

If you want your PhD in Agricultural Economics, the best university in canada for your studies would be the University of Guelph, in Ontario. I am not certain what you are asking for when you say how can I get a matching university and scholarship... please elaborate... Thank you.

They dont have to. You could draw them however you want, as long as they are different. I supposes texts do that to make a point, especially in regards to cost. That is, the more units produced, the greater the difference between private and social cost.

I've just graduated with a BSc, is it worth pursuing an MSc as well?
I've just graduated with an economics degree in the UK. Before getting into a full-time career, I'm taking a year out to earn enough money to study for a Master's degree next year. I'll study either MSc Accountancy or MSc Finance / Management. Has anyone got any advice as to how much more employers value an MSc than a BSc?

getting an MSc will definitely be useful but I think you need to work for a few more yrs ( say 2-3) to get a complete feel of how things work in practical work environment and then go ahead n study..well this is stictly my opinion. I cant vouch for it as the truth.

Assuming you are in the US on a student VISA, you would need to find a company that would sponsor you. You are looking for an H1 VISA. Hope this helps!

You have many options, however, each college or university may have specific criteria on what they expect prior to accepting you for study in one of their Phd programs. If you have really excellent grades, you may want to consider Harvard, Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania or one of the colleges in the University of North Carolina.

I am a Pakistani national living in Pakistan . My question is related to student visa requirements for UK?
I am a Pakistani national living in Pakistan . My husband is British citizen by birth. He has been living in Pakistan for the last 4 years. We have a 8 months old son now who is naturally British as his father is a British citizen. We have applied for his registration at British high commission here in Islamabad . We have received a letter from them also saying that my son s registration will be done as soon as possible. Now the matter is that I have been offered a place at Leicester University for MSC economics. Its a 9 months course.I want to take my son with myself. As his registration is still in process, Can i take him to UK on his Pakistani passport as my dependent. I ll apply for a general student visa (Tier 4 ). Will I have to show separate funds for my son although he is a British child. I intend to go to UK in Sept and hopefully his registration will be done by Oct-Nov.

You should contact the Visa section of the High Commission for advice, Yahoo Answers is really not the best place to ask for guidance on a complicated issue like this one. You can check out the UK Border Agency site for the general guidance but it does not seem to provide the answer to your specific question. Perhaps the inquiry will persuade the High Commission to escalate the registration process.

Your son is automatically a British citizen by descent as his father is a British citizen by birth, so the registration of his birth in Pakistan does not affect his right to citizenship. You can apply for a British passport for your son, but the difference is that you will need to include his father's original birth certificate with your son's birth certificate. If you wait for registration, you will only need his birth cert and his registration document as that is sufficient to prove his nationality. If you brought him to the UK as your dependent, you would have to show maintenance funds for him, which you won't have to do if he enters the UK as a British citizen. The amount would be £3,600. Having said all this, I have just checked the Foreign Office website and it says that currently first time passport applications in Pakistan are taking between seven to eight months, so you may have to take your son to the UK as your dependent and apply for his UK passport from the UK. You could try contacting the British Commission in Islamabad to see if they would issue an emergency travel document. This would cut through the necessity of applying for him as your dependent and also make it more straightforward to get his British passport once you are in the UK. If you can't get an emergency passport, you will need to bring all the paperwork with you and you will also need your husband's permission to apply for your son's passport. You should also wait until you receive the registration certificate and submit that along with his Pakistani passport as that is the passport he entered the UK with. http://ukinpakistan.fco.gov.uk/en/help-for-british-nationals/passports/apply-in-pakistan http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/Applyingforaneworrenewedchildpassport/DG_174107

That will depend on the school you apply. Some colleges require GMAT. before you register for the exam, search the requirement of colleges for graduate admissions that you are willing to apply. Most colleges satisfy with general GRE.

Looking over the coursework for the LSE program you mentioned, in the United States a comparable program would be an MSF - Master of Science in Finance, and I say that because the theory is quite nuanced (as a graduate degree should be) into financial economics and financial markets, with a high degree of technical application. You'll find similar programs in the States at: * University of Illinois - Champaign / Urbana * Washington University in St. Louis * New York University - Stern School of Business * George Washington University * University of California - Berkeley * Claremont McKenna Most advanced programs in Finance, Financial Engineering, Quantitative Finance and Mathematical Finance are doctoral level in part because of the heavy emphasis on research. Master's-level programs in the States tend to be more applied towards business (although these will prepare one for doctoral study). I hold an MA in Economics from the University of Missouri at St. Louis, and took graduate-level classes in finance. I'm supplementing my study with preparation in the CFA program, which is something I'd suggest you consider. You could do worse than to earn your CFA while working through a Master's program - the material in both lend well to each other.

Is an MSc in Finance or Economics worthwhile for a U.S. student
Is an MSc in Finance or Economics worthwhile for a U.S. student?
I want to work in the financial sector (to help clean up the mess :)), but most MBA programs require 3-4 years of "quality" work experience. I'm not sure I'm going to achieve that, at least not for a long time, with a Political Science degree from a regional school during a recession. I'd like to go to Europe and get an MSc in Finance from a school like Instituto de Empresa in Spain or LSE/Oxford/Imperial in the UK, work in that sector, then get an MBA later on to move into management. These schools are highly regarded in the Financial Times rankings. I'm concerned: Will I be "underemployed" in the U.S. by employers who don't pay attention to what happens outside their own country (let alone what European schools have to offer)? If so, do you think I'd have a better bet getting a job in China or Latin America with a European MSc? (I speak Spanish and some Portuguese but am good with languages so learning Chinese should take 2 years at most, so language should not be a concern)

LSE/Oxford/Imperial/LBS (maybe Warwick/Cambridge, as well) are so highly regarded in the finance industry, especially LSE and LBS, that finding employment upon graduation will not be a problem. The entrance requirements to the finance programs at these institutions are so high that firms know that by recruiting from these places they are getting the best and the brightest. If you can afford the price tag you may also want to apply to some of the more prestigious schools in the US, since acceptance rates are so low it does not hurt to apply to one too many schools.

Most MBA programs prefer students with 2-3 years work experience after the first degree, but some accept students right out of college if they have good grades and a high GMAT score. Some MBA programs are designed specifically for new college graduates without work experience. Consult the Official MBA Guide. It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

It's the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.

if i have a GPA of 3.5 can i get into Oxford Graduate School to study financial Economics
if i have a GPA of 3.5 can i get into Oxford Graduate School to study financial Economics?
I want to apply for the Weinfeld Scholarship at Oxford to pursue a Msc in Financial Economics. I read on their business school's website that you need a 3.5 GPA to get in, exactly mine, but friends have told me that you need at least a 3.89 GPA...does it seems unlikely to assume that i will get in, and even more get the scholarship?

Theoretically yes, you can get in. It is unlikely, yet possible. I really have doubts about the scholarship, you'd have to have insanely good social merits and reccomendation letters
